Marie Imelda Gillis (nee MacDonald)

December 1, 1935 — March 6, 2024

Marie Gillis passed peacefully away at home in St. Fintan’s, N.L. on Wednesday, March 6th, surrounded by loving family after a brief illness.

Marie was a woman of strength and deep Catholic faith until the very end, who in better days was a voracious reader and dedicated much of her life taking care of other people (and animals).

Left to mourn are her nine children; Dianne (Dave), Rosalie (Jerry), Michelle, Maryanne (Peter), Damien (Paulette), Shelia (Darren), Vickie, Gyles (Carol), and Cassidy (Helen); along with her nine grandchildren; Heather (Blaine), Jasmine, John (Alyssa), Sarah, Jordan (Dee), MacDonald, Lee and Rebecca (Ben) and CJ; great grandchildren Emerson and Erik; and many nieces and nephews.

Her siblings, Rose, Theresa, Rita, George (Genevieve), Cecila, Allan (Bernice), sister-in-law Maudie.

Marie is predeceased by her husband of  nearly 45 years, Thomas M. Gillis; her parents Louis and Dorthy MacDonald; in-laws Thomas P. Gillis and Mary; brothers Dan (Gladys), Bill (Ethel), Mike (Isabelle), Richard; sisters Margaret (David), and Cal.

To Marie’s home care worker Wanda King Noseworthy, and her husband Craig, a very special thank you for your warm kindness, care, dedication and support.

Thank you to the Western Health Palliative Care Team, especially Deanna and Stephanie.

In Lieu of flowers or other expressions of sympathy, please donate to the Canadian Cancer Society.
