It is with great sadness that the family of the late Howard Foster Sparkes announce his passing on Monday, April 22, 2024 at the Palliative Care Unit in Corner Brook at the age of 78 years. Howard is well known in the city of Corner Brook and surrounding areas as owner and operator of Sparkes Transportation and Crane Ltd. since 1991. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife Ivy (Vokey) Sparkes; children: Jacqui Brodhagen, LeAnne (Bill) Cooper and Shawn (Maxine) Sparkes; grandchildren: Marcus (Taylor) Cooper, Shawna Brodhagen, Keisha Brodhagen, Mikayla Sparkes (Jordan) and Abigail Sparkes (Tyler); great-grandchildren: Zendaya Balon and Carter Cooper; sister Betty (Randy) Seymour; sisters-in-law: Daphne Sparkes and Imelda Sparkes; brother-in-law, business partner and long life friend for 52 years, Francis Brake; as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Foster and Evelyn Jean Sparkes, brothers Robert “Bob” Sparkes and Maxwell “Max” Sparkes, sisters Margaret Pretty and Barbara Brake. Friends may visit Fillatre’s Funeral Home, 4 St. Mark’s Avenue on Thursday 6-9 p.m. and Friday 1-4 p.m. Cremation to follow the visitation. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 27 at 2:00 p.m. from the Salvation Amry Temple, Citadel Drive with Majors Wayne and Betty Ann Pike officiating. Interment to follow at Mount Patricia Niche Wall. As expressions of sympathy, flowers graciously accepted or donations may be made to the Salvation Army or the NL West SPCA.
