It is with great sadness that the family of the late Bob Garnier announce his peaceful passing at Western Memorial Regional Hospital in Corner Brook, NL on April 28, 2024 at the age of 87 years. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories are his children: Lorne (Geneva), Wendy (Harry), Corey (Arleen); grandchildren: Brittany (Brandon) and Dawson; brother Colin (Maggie); sisters: Georgina and Sherril; brothers-in-law: Fred, Kevin (Marriet), Tom (Darlene), Harold (Corinna); sisters-in-law: Darlene, Diane, Joanne (Doug) as well as a large number of other relatives and friends, especially his special friend Stanley Parsons and his special Goddaughter Gertie Ryan-Kavanagh. He was predeceased by his wife Malinda; father Richard and mother Ada, brothers: Max, Ron, Dave and Bernard; sisters: Freda and Theresa; father-in-law Herb Pye and mother-in-law May; brothers-in-law: Myron, Jerry and Herbie.

Bob was an avid outdoorsman and spent many years camping, snowmobiling the backcountry as well as salmon fishing the local rivers. He loved gardening and had a green thumb as he harvested well-grown vegetables yearly. Bob enjoyed listening to “The Cabin Party” on Saturday nights while telling stories of the past with his family and friends. Bob contributed many years volunteering in his community. He was one of the founders and members of the Barachois Search and Rescue. He was Fire Chief of St. George’s Fire Department for 5 years. Bob was a lifelong member of the Legion and served as President of St. George’s Legion Branch 38 for 10 years. Bob also was an Officer of the 194 Calypso Sea Cadets.

His career began in the Army in the Black Watch Regiment. Later, he went to work as a Maintenance Worker for many years at Flinkote Gypsum Mine where he built lifetime friendships with his coworkers.

Visitation will take place at Fillatre’s Funeral Home, Stephenville Crossing, NL on Wednesday May 1, 2024 from 7-9pm.

Respecting Bob’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date. As expressions of sympathy donations may be made to Branch 38 Legion, St. George’s, NL.
