Alma O’Brien (nee Ryland)

October 20, 1952 – May 4, 2024

Following a courageous battle with cancer, as she was surrounded by her loving family, Alma moved on to a place of comfort and peace on Saturday, May 4, at age 71. Predeceased by her parents Arthur and Irene; and sisters, Hazel and Mary.  Leaving to mourn her great loss and to continue celebrating her life are her beloved and devoted husband, Marcel; children, Darrell (Jackie) and Tara (Dean); grandchildren, Aaron (Amelia), Kyla, and Liam; great-grandchildren, Aiden and Anders; her sisters, Stella (Lavender), Grace (Malachi), Caroline (Eric), Maxine (Pat), Gertie (Warren), Dorcas (Dorman), and brothers, David (Mary) and Jerry (Selma); as well as her brothers and sisters in-law, nieces and nephews and treasured friends.  Fond and loving memories of this beautiful woman will forever be held by those who were blessed to know her and lucky enough to have her in their lives.  She had an exuberant presence and her passing will leave an enormous void in all our lives.  She was exceedingly generous, and her countless acts of kindness will be forever remembered.

The family wishes to express their gratitude and thanks to the staff at the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Centre in St. John’s, NL, and the staff at the palliative care unit of the Labrador South Health Centre’s long-term care facility in Forteau, NL.

Public visitation to be held from 2:00pm – 4:00pm on Wednesday, May 8, 2024, at the Lawrence D. O'Brien Town Centre.  As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to the Janeway Children’s Hospital Foundation.
