Carl Joseph Mercer, 89 years of Corner Brook, NL, passed away on May 15th, 2024 at the Palliative Care Unit of WMRH.

Carl was born in Port-Aux-Basques, NL to Classie and Richard Mercer on October 20, 1934. He went to high school at Corner Brook Public School and graduated in 1951. Carl went on to start his own business with his wife known as Carl's Esso on Country Road in Corner Brook which became known as a local landmark for people living in the area. For a number of years, he was a member of the local Masonic Lodge in Corner Brook.

Carl is survived by his wife of 68 years: Jean (Burton) Mercer of Corner Brook; son: Stephen Mercer (Barbara-Ann); sister: Sylvia (Mercer) Smith, Melvin Smith (deceased); Grandchildren: Stephen Bishop, Shelley Bishop; Great-grandchildren: Bailey, James, and Raven; Special friends: Clyde and Shirley King, Don Lundrigan and family. Also left to mourn a wide circle of relatives, family, and friends.

He is preceded in death by his father Richard Mercer, mother Classie Mercer, brother Richard Mercer Jr.

Cremation has already taken place. There will be a visitation at Fillatre’s Funeral Home on St. Marks Avenue, Corner Brook on Saturday, May 18th, 2024 from the hours of 2PM - 4PM and 7PM - 9PM. Internment to occur at a later date.
