It is with great sadness that the family of the late Clifford James Ryland announce his passing on Thursday, May 16, 2024, at the Health Sciences Centre, St. John’s at the age of 77 years.
Clifford will be forever loved and always missed by his wife of 50 years, Audrey; his siblings: Ella, Georgina, Ruby, Garfield (Christina), Emily (Lawrence), Hedley (Agatha); and his in-laws: Beryl (Norman), Celestine, Deborah (Calvin), Rowena (Garfield), Elvin (Jackie), and Michelle (Leon). He will be fondly remembered by his nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews and many dear family and friends.
Clifford was predeceased by his parents Augustus and Victoria Ryland; parents-in-law Hayward and Alice Normore; sisters Greta Barney and Maria White; and brothers-in-law Leonard Barney, Gordon Hoddinott, Donald Eady, Gideon White, Wayne Earle and Leslie Chubbs.
Clifford was born in L’Anse au Loup, on December 14, 1946. He was a fisherman in his early days and spent much of his later years as a driver for the Labrador Fishermen’s Union Shrimp Company Ltd., which was a job he enjoyed until he retired. Clifford was the quiet thoughtful type. He was a humble and kind man, who loved unconditionally, engaged in the most interesting conversations; and always gave the best advice.
He was dedicated to his church as church warden, parish councillor and organist for many years; and his absence will be deeply missed amongst his church family.
Cremation has taken place, and a funeral service is to be announced.
