Joan Marie Hutchings

November 30, 1940 – May 16, 2024

Corner Brook, NL

It is with profound sadness that the family of Joan Hutchings announces her sudden passing on Thursday, May 16, 2024 at Western Memorial Regional Hospital in her 83rd year.

Leaving to mourn are her sisters Bette (Wyn) Rolls, Colleen ( Paul and Rikki) Boland, Trudy and Werner Schulz (Ian and Jennifer and their children Alex and Abby; Kevin and Matt); her brother Bill and wife Marie (Jim, Lisa and Kim); brother-in-law Bill Smith (Sean, Natalie, Nicole and Colin), sisters-in-law, Patricia Hutchings (Robert, Theresa and Heather), Margaret Hutchings (Ann, Edward, Margaret, David, Chris and Mary Kay); as well as many great nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, who she loved dearly.

Joan is predeceased by her parents Alex and Bride Hutchings, brothers Edward and Kevin, sisters, Sister Josette and Barbara (Smith), brothers-in-law Harry Rolls and William Boland; and nephew Michael Schulz.

Joan touched countless lives during her thirty-year career as a teacher in the Corner Brook area.  Retirement was spent enjoying time with her large circle of family and friends. Cheering on and supporting her nieces and nephews in their various sports and extra-curricular activities, boil-ups with her family and travelling were among some of her favourite things to do.  There is an endless list of warm memories from the annual celebrations and holiday get-togethers "down home" at her house - the Hutchings family home where Joan lived her entire life.  And of course, Christmas wasn't Christmas until Aunt Joan's turkey was served, everyone had a second or third helping and Silent Night was sung (with Aunt Joan taking the lead).

Friends may visit Fillatre’s Funeral Home, 218 Curling Street on Monday, May 20th from the hours of 7-9:00 p.m. and Tuesday, May 21st from 2-4 and 7-9:00 p.m.
