Obituary of Susanna Mary McDonald

Susanna Mary McDonald (O’Dell)

November 26th, 1924 – June 2nd, 2024

 It is with great sadness that the family of the late Susanna Mary McDonald (O’Dell) announce her peaceful passing on Sunday, June 2, 2024, at the Labrador South Health Centre, Long Term Care, at a wonderful age of 99 years.

At an early age, Susanna worked alongside her husband Henry in the fishery and would eventually become the Postmaster at the local Post Office in West St. Modeste until she retired in the mid 1980’s.

She will be fondly remembered for her witty personality and immeasurable acts of kindness. She could often be found at gatherings singing and up to her little shenanigans. In her quiet time, she could be found rocking in her chair praying for all the sick or knitting socks for family and friends. She was a woman of great faith, had enormous humor and loved every moment spent with her family. Left to mourn a large circle of family and friends.

Predeceased by Parents Mark O’Dell and Margaret Pike; Husband: Henry; Sisters: Josephine, Dorothy and Catherine; Brother: Matthew.

There will be a visitation held at Our Lady of Labrador Parish in West St. Modeste, on Monday, June 3 from 7 – 9 p.m.

A funeral service will be held at Our Lady of Labrador Parish in West St. Modeste, Tuesday, June 4th, 2024, at 3 p.m. NL time with Father James Yacob officiating. Interment to follow at the Roman Catholic Cemetery in Pinware.

The family wishes to extend gratitude to Dr. Milani and the staff at the Long-Term Care for the wonderful care and love that was shown to Susanna aka Aunt Susie during her short stay at the LTC.
