Obituary of Vera Catherine Welsh
Vera Catherine Welsh
July 6, 1937 – June 5, 2024
It is with heartfelt sorrow that we announce the passing of our loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt. Vera Catherine Welsh passed away on June 5, 2024, at the age of 86 years.
She leaves to mourn her sons Kevin (Marjorie), Donald (Joy), Tony (Brenda), Owen (Daphne); daughters Juanita and Laura (Bryan); grandchildren Patsy, Jordan, Justin, Blair, Sarah, Kelly, Richard, Clemin, John Paul, Gregory, Iesha, Willie, Vanessa, Dylan, and Nicolas; great grandchildren Chantel, Caelan, Carlos, Cody, Austin, Elizabeth, Gavin, Jaiden, Taylor, Cameron, Joshua, Bethany, Liam, Elizabeth, Everett, Roy, Marley, Everly, and Melody; great-great grandchild Ashanti; brothers Rendell, Jim (Marjorie), Rex (June), Harvey (Mary), Alton (Marilyn) Clayton (Ivy), Ron (Pauline) and Woodrow (Betty); sisters Bessie, Victoria, and Barbara; bother-in-law George (Nina); and sisters-in-law Beatrice (Newman), and Brada.
Vera was predeceased by her husband John; daughter Sharon; sons-in-law Paul Blanchard, Fergus Bryan, and Jerry Shears; grandson Woodrow Welsh; parents Hayward and Maude Reid; brothers Gus and Don; and brothers-in-law Reginald and Sterling (Velma) Welsh.
She sacrificed and dedicated her life to being a wife and a loving mom of seven children. As children growing up in harder times, we watched her grow vegetables, bake, sew clothes, knit mitts and socks, pick berries, and jar preserves to provide for us. She spent many hours using the old wringer washer and hanging clothes out on the line only to freeze moments later. She made us feel better from sickness or a simple skinned out knee by making home remedies with love. Being a one-woman army, she always made sure we had something under the Christmas tree, and always made time for our school functions. In her later years she joined the church choir and the senior’s group, where she volunteered her time and enjoyed meeting new friends.
Many Thanks to Western Memorial Staff on 3C and to the Palliative Care Unit for your care and kindness. Your thoughtfulness will be remembered. As well Thank you to Fillatre’s Funeral Home.
A special Thank you to her granddaughter Iesha Peckford for dropping everything in her own life to come home to be her grandmothers trained home care worker. We are so very grateful, Thank you so much.
