Rita Josephine McGrath

March 6, 1939 – July 7, 2024

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Rita McGrath announce her passing on Sunday, July 7^th, 2024 at Western Memorial Regional hospital in Corner Brook at the age of 85 years. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories, her husband  Edmund of 66 years; children Shirley, Judy (Craig), Agnes, Kim (Ralph deceased), Rhonda (Don), Loretta (Brendan) and Glen (Maxine); 13 grandchildren, Chelsea, Brooke, Crystal, Devon, Chad, Curtis, Candace, Janna, Shawn, Keegan, Keisha, Carley and Nicholas; six great grandchildren; sisters, Josephine and Agnes; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She is predeceased by her parents James and Agnes McGrath (Kearney), sisters Carmel, Madeline, Mary and Elizabeth.

Mom was a witty, “tell it like it is” kind of lady who loved children. Although she was a stay at home Mom, she worked for a short time in the fish plant, and was known to say, “the money doesn’t stink”! She spent a lot of time making hand made quilts for all her children. Before becoming too sick she enjoyed going to Sacred Heart Parish Church every Saturday. A special thank you to her two daughters, Shirley and Kim who were her primary caregivers.

Friends and family may visit Fillatre’s Funeral Home, 218 Curling Street on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 11^th at 2:00 p.m. from Sacred Heart Parish in Curling with Fr. Alphonsus Iloekwe officiating. The interment will follow at Mt. Patricia Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, flowers are graciously accepted, or memorial donations may be made to the Sacred Heart Parish.
