Leonard Leslie Patey

January 7, 1955 – July 19, 2024

Corner Brook, NL

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Leonard Leslie Patey announce his passing on Friday, July 19, 2024 at the Western Palliative Care Unit at the age of 69 Years. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his loving wife Karen; special little buddy Rudy; his sisters: Donna Kersey, Janine Beaton (Gordie) and Arlene Ewart (Gord); special cousin Peggy Watton, along with several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; in laws: Trudy (Roddy) Humphries and family, Bruce (Brenda) King and family, Brian (Bernice) King and family, Randy, Cheryl and James King, Dawn King and family. He was predeceased by his parents Margaret and Donald Patey, brother-in-law Robert Kersey, special aunts Lottie Styles (Jim), Laura Watton (Harvey) and Dorothy Janes (Norm), uncle Joe Patey (Margaret), special uncle Garland Patey (who was like a second father to Len), parents-in-law George and Gladys King, brother-in-law Terry King.

As per Len’s wishes cremation has taken place and a private family service will follow at a later date at the cemetery in Fishing Point, St. Anthony, NL. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Len cherished Karen, their home and his little buddy Rudy “Old Fart.” Len loved mechanic work with NL Hydro. He had a passion for flying since he was a child seeing planes landing in the St. Anthony Harbour on water and ice. Len was like his father who was also a pilot.

Len was a gentle soul who loved his family near and far. He travelled to Vancouver Island and enjoyed every moment he spent with his sisters and their families.

Len’s greatest passion was flying airplanes and float planes. He had the pleasure of sitting in a Norseman airplane and had seen several others in museums and spits in B.C.

He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, guiding and riding side by side from Howley to Gaff Topsails.

He loved reading and was a humble intellectual, great historian and had genuine “salt of the earth” qualities. He left his mark on the hearts of everyone he knew. We pray that he is flying amongst the angels now.

A special thank you to Dr. Callahan, Dr. Roarke, staff at the Chemo Unit and the Palliative Care Team for their care and compassion over the past 3 and a half years.
