Valda was born June 20, 1941 and raised in Corner Brook. In 1958 she met her lifelong partner Floyd Allen and was married in 1959. She spent 15 years as a Nursing Assistant at The Murray Clinic. Choosing to further her career she became a Registered Nurse in 1979. She spent 25 years as a RN, raised her family, kept a spotless, well-run home, cooking, cleaning, making home made bread. Valda’s talents were endless; knitting, quilting, crocheting and many other crafts with all this, she was still able to keep Floyd going with their hunting and fishing adventures. Even known to quarter a moose or fillet a cod fish.
Valda loved her drinks and having a good laugh. Her silly antics kept so much joy in our lives. She loved entertaining friends and family by a big fire, playing her accordion or harmonica. Truly the life of the party. She lived life to the fullest. Valda will always be remembered for her perfectly styled hair, makeup and dressed to the nines. Her bright white smile would light up any room. After retirement Valda and Floyd spent their time at their cabin on #4 Brooke. A fire, few drinks and friends were her life. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy. Attending hockey, soccer, gymnastics, dance, music and cheering for them all the time. She loved doing fun crafts with the children.
As per Valda’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will take place on Sunday, November 10th, 2024 from Fillatre’s Funeral Home Chapel, St. Marks Avenue. Friends and family may visit prior to the service from 12 noon to 3:00 p.m.
The family wish to thank the staff at Corner Brook Long Term Care for their care of Valda during the past two and half years. Much thanks to all our family and friends for your love and support throughout this difficult time. Sending love to all. As expressions of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
