George, Alvina Annie

Curling, Newfoundland

January 6th, 1943- October 4th, 2024

It is with profound sadness the family of Alvina Annie George (nee Kean) announce her passing on Friday, October 4th, 2024 at PCU of WMRH in her 82nd year.

Alvina, affectionately known as “Tiny” was a dear wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and friend. She will always be remembered as a loving, kind, loyal, compassionate, and trustworthy person. She was full of boundless energy and zest for life, as displayed by her daily walks, involvement with her TOPS group members and friends, and countless volunteer hours with the ladies’ group of Sacred Heart Parish.  Even though Tiny retired from a full time job early on, she continued to serve and comfort others at Fillatre’s Funeral Home until her 80th year. Tiny loved her time with her neighbours and friends at Coppermine Brook, and she and Mike would revel in how they were living the dream together. Her devotion to her faith was unwavering; her genuine commitment to God was evident in how she lived her daily life, and how she treated others.

She is survived by her best friend and devoted husband, Michael George, her son Sean George (Vicki), her two daughters, Terri-Lynn Clyde (Peter,) and Michelle Mattingly (Sean) her four grandchildren, Perry, Zachary, Jessie, and Logan, as well as seven great-grandchildren, brothers and sisters, Shirley (Charles), George (Anita), Gordon (Beverly), Irene and a large circle of extended family and close friends. Tiny is also survived by others who considered her a surrogate mother (Darrell, Mahala, Clayton, Rhonda, and Maureen,) and grandmother (Tommy and Alex Ford).

She was predeceased by her parents, Daniel and Margaret Kean, her brother Wilson Kean, sister-in-law and special friend Lorena George, and her parents-in-law, Michael and Ada George.

As per Tiny’s wishes, a cremation has taken place. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, Oct 8th, 2024 at 10:30 am at Sacred Heart Parish, Curling Street, with Father Laney officiating. Friends may visit Fillatre’s Funeral home at 218 Curling Street, Monday Oct 7th from 2-4 and 7-9 pm.

As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to Sacred Heart Parish or a charity of one’s choice. The family guestbook may be signed on the Fillatre’s Funeral Home website at www.fillatres.ca.
