Eugene Reuben Woodrow Mesher
November 4, 1944 – October 12, 2024
It is with heavy hearts that the family of the late Eugene Reuben Woodrow Mesher, announce his passing on October 12, 2024, at the age of 79 years. He passed peacefully, surrounded by the love of his family, at the Labrador Health Centre in Happy Valley-Goose Bay, Labrador.
Leaving to mourn with fond and cherished memories are his Partner: Alma; Daughter: Wanda Lee (Patrick); Stepsons: Gilbert (Joanne), Glenn (Guy) and Paul. He is lovingly remembered as a father figure by his three nephews, Kevin, Maynard and Curtis, whom he raised as his own; Grandchildren: Morgan (Zackery), Marcus (Monica), Laura, Konlan, Xavier, Austin, Jericho, Benjamin, Ryan and Jack, and Great-Granddaughter: Sadie.
Sharing our sorrow are his Sisters: Loretta (Clyde) and Flora (Michael); Brothers: Eldred (Genny), Wayne (Louise), Ford (Joan), Selby (Daisy) and George (Shawna); Brother-in-Law: Tone (Elva), Naomi (mother of Wanda Lee); as well as an abundance of nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
Eugene was predeceased by his Parents: Warrick and Lavinia; Sisters: Bertha, Sadie, Eva and Daphne; Brothers: Samuel and Harold; Brother-in-Law: Ron; Sisters in Law: Elizabeth, Maxine, Nora, Hazel and Grace; Nephew: David; Nieces: Kelly and Alicia; and his beloved puppy dog Tana or “B-a-b-y” as he lovingly called her.
Eugene was a true son of Labrador, a humble, gentle man whose kindness, love and devotion to his family knew no bounds. He will be remembered as a man of many talents, a musician, trapper, hunter, fisherman, bus driver, welder, carpenter, logger and remote-control airplane enthusiast. Eugene lived a full life, filled with love, joy, humor and wisdom, cherishing every moment spent with his family and doing what he loved.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Cartwright ambulance crew, the staff of the Cartwright Community Clinic and the staff of the Labrador Health Centre, for their compassionate care during his illness and hospital stay. Your kindness made the hard days a little easier and never went unnoticed.
Cremation has taken place, and a Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, October 22, 2024, @ 1:00pm at St. Peter’s Anglican Church in Cartwright, with Rev. Alice Moores officiating.
In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the Happy Valley-Goose Bay S.P.C.A, in honour of Eugene’s love of animals.
