He leaves to mourn with wonderful memories his children; Donna, Paul (Winnie), Nadine and Tonia (Glenn); grandchildren: Avery, Nicholas (Alysha), Amanda, Jessica and Maria; great grandchildren; Delilah, Katie and Julia; also left to mourn are his siblings: Joseph LeGrow, Norman Whalen Linda), Marven Whalen (Pearl), Bruce Whalen (Glendine), Beverly Hatt (Murray) and Sharon Whalen. As well his special chosen family: Raymond Elford, Reverend Russell Small, Reverend Ken Abbott and special companion Mary Sooley, and a large number of nieces, nephews and all other family members too numerous to mention.

Predeceased by his beloved wife Doreen (nee Churchill), his grandchildren Kristina Marie Elford and Christopher Dempsey LeGrow; parents Masie Whalen and Alfred LeGrow, stepfather Joseph Whalen, brother George Lambert LeGrow, father-in-law Alfred Churchill and mother-in-law Fanny Jane Churchill.

Nelson started his illustrious career at the young age of 16 years old as teacher in Change Islands. He continued his education at the University of Toronto with a degree in Theology. Nelson and Doreen moved around many places in Canada and the United States and settled in Corner Brook where they continued to raise their family. It seemed everyone knew of Nelson (both young and old) due to his humour, kindness and generosity. He wrote songs, played piano, wrote poetry and graciously shared his talents with family and friends. Nelsons family would like to thank the staff of Lohnes Complex (where he resided for many years) for their care of their precious father. Also a heartfelt thank you the Doctors, nurses and PCA’s at Western Memorial Regional Hospital on Unit 5B for their compassion and care of Nelson in his final days. Cremation has taken place as per Nelsons’ wishes; there will be no funeral service. Interment will follow at a later date. Donations in Nelson’s name may be made to the Heart and Stroke foundation or the Janeway Children’s Hospital

“Amazing Grace! how sweet the sound,

That saved a wretch like me!

I once was lost, but now am found,

Was blind but now I see.

T’was grace that taught my hear to fear

And grace my fears relieved.

How precious did that grace appear,

The hour I first believed.”
