It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that the family announce the sudden passing of Violet Elizabeth Hackett on Tuesday, November 12th at the age of 79.
She leaves to mourn her husband of 59 years, Reginald, son, Randy (Sharon), daughters: Cindy (Gerard) and Peggy (Terry), as well as her grandchildren: Cherell (Peter), Caley (Jordan), Joshua, and Jenna, and her great-grandchildren: Bowen and Juliana; her brothers and sisters: Reg Simmonds, Lucy (Derek) Dennis, Fred (Marilyn) Simmonds, Vivian (Roy) Bannister, and Leona Bennett, brother in laws: Tom (Martha) Hackett, Gerard (Mary Byrne) Hackett, Brendan (Holly), Peter (Nancy) Hackett, sisters-in-law Philomena Hackett, Eva Hackett, Millie Hackett, Velita (Michael) McCarthy, Anne Marie Hackett, Donna (Darren) Donahue: as well as numerous nieces and nephews, and many dear friends.
Violet was predeceased by her parents, Dorothy and Samuel Simmonds, her sister, Irene Wilton, her brothers-in-law, Bill Wilton, Joseph Bennett, Ted Hackett, Walter Hackett, Allan Hackett, Karl Hackett, and her sisters-in-law, Helen Hackett, and Margaret Simmonds.
Violet was a wonderful cook and baker, and she fed many people over the years, both at their home and especially at their cabin on Woods Island where she spent much of their summers. She was always there to lend a helping hand and really enjoyed her Darts night and many fun nights over the years with her friends, as well as taking care of her two great-grandchildren in recent years.
Friends and family may visit Fillatre’s Funeral Home, 218 Curling Street on Wednesday evening from 7-9 PM. The Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, November 14th, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. from Our Lady Star of the Sea, Benoit’s Cove with Father Lee Lainey officiating. A Private family burial will take place at the family plot in Woody Point.
Tribute donations can be made to a charity of one’s choice in her memory.
