Obituary of Pearl Mary Andrews
Pearl Mary Andrews
1941 – 2024
It is with great sadness the Andrews family announces the passing of Pearl Mary Andrews (nee Bridger) on December 6, 2024 at the Palliative Care Unit in Corner Brook NL. Pearl passed away peacefully with her family at her side. She was 83 years old. Born on 24 May 1941 in Griquet (AKA Cricket) (St. Lunaire-Griquet), NL, Pearl was the only child born to Arthur Bridger and Eliza Barrett. Her birth mother Eliza tragically passed away when Pearl was only two years old. Her grandparents, Josiah and Elizabeth Bridger, assumed the parenting role in her life.
She was the beloved wife and life long partner to Allen Gordon Andrews for 66 years and a devoted mother to her daughter Linda (Tony) Rerrie and son Larry (Judy) Andrews. She will be sadly missed by her grandchildren Amy (Marshall) Moore, Rebecca Feltmate and Daniel (Amanda) Fraser. Pearl leaves behind brothers Ambrose and Norman Bridger, sisters Nellie (Norm) Bursey, Shirley (Eddie) White, Thelma (Dean)Bridger and Lillian (Jim) Hampton, daughter-in-law Stacey Andrews, and sister-in-law Barbara Bridger.
Pearl is predeceased by her son Corey Andrews, her sister Irene Fancy and her brother Ernest Bridger.
Pearl loved life; she was a passionate quilter and knitter who produced high quality crafts products. Her love for her beloved Newfoundland was quite evident as the Newfoundland culture and symbols were embedded in all aspects of her craft, products and creations. She was a savvy business woman who had a natural knack for sales. Her favorite past time was going to garage and yard sales where she could instinctively spy a deal from the roadway; giving credence to the term one man's trash is another man's treasure.
She was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker, during difficult times she worked locally as a short-order cook in order to provide for her family. Allen worked as a lumberjack and was away often so Pearl ran the house while raising her family. She was the financial planner, assumed the roles of mom and dad, disciplinarian, councillor, family decision maker and rewarder. She excelled in planning and arranging trips for family and friends. She loved to travel locally and internationally. She enjoyed the lavish lifestyle of cruise ships; cruising the Caribbean with family on numerous occasions. Pearl was a socialite who enjoyed reminiscing with family and friends about the good old days. A true down-homer, she enjoyed singing and listening to songs/ballads associated to the east coast. She also enjoyed the traditional foods of Newfoundland; fish and brewis, jiggs dinner, fried cods tongue to name only a few of her favourites. Pearl lived her life on her terms and she was a no-nonsense type of person who, at times, displayed a hard shell but would not hesitate to help anyone in need. She was a forward thinker who was always one step ahead of you in thoughts and action.
The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation and gratitude to the staff of the Corner Brook Palliative Care Unit for the care and compassion they afforded Pearl day in and day out. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations, on behalf of Pearl, to be made to the S.P.C.A. or the Daffodil Place.
