Obituary of Mary Ann Doucet
Please share a memory of Mary Ann to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Mary Ann Doucet, beloved wife, mother, sister, and friend, who
left us peacefully on December 7, 2024, at the age of 81. Mary Ann was the cherished wife of Paul and devoted mother
to Paulette and Jeff. Her love for her family and friends was boundless, and her kindness and warmth touched all who
had the privilege of knowing her.
Mary Ann’s infectious laughter and zest for life brightened every room she entered. Whether she was hosting visitors,
baking goodies to deliver to everyone at Christmas or simply sharing a good story (and she had a lot of stories) she
always knew how to bring a smile to your face.
Throughout her life Mary Ann was actively involved in her community. Her passion for volunteering and helping others
was evident in everything she did, from volunteering to giving anything she could to help those in need. In her later
years she was proud to be invited to gatherings as an elder with Nunatsiavut. Her involvement at gatherings allowed her
to learn more about her culture, share her knowledge with others, but most importantly, make some new lifelong
friends along the way. Friends both old and new was something that she cherished throughout her lifetime.
Mary Ann’s life was one of adventure, travel, and connection. Her love of travel, and fear of flying, led to multiple drives
across Canada and the United States. These trips always included visits with friends and family along the way. Closer to
home she loved to combine travel and family whether it was a trip on the boat to Makkovik, or a short drive with her
sisters Katie and Effie going for ice-cream. When family and friends came to visit her, she loved nothing more than filling
their bellies with delicious meals, ensuring everyone felt welcome and cared for.
Mary Ann was also a gifted artist, passing down the tradition of slipper and mitt making to many over the years. Her
patience, creativity, and skill left an indelible mark on everyone she taught. She was very proud to have one of her
embroideries selected by The Rooms in St. John’s for a display.
Mary Ann is predeceased by her parents, Alfred and Bridget Winters, as well as her brothers Bertie, Herman, Max,
Bunny, Edward Allen, and sister Polly. She is survived by her loving husband Paul, children Paulette and Jeff, and her
brothers Sonny and Ed, sisters Katie and Effie, and many nieces and nephews each of who she treasured.
In her final year, the family is deeply and forever grateful for the extraordinary care and support provided by Georgia
Davis, Jenny Wells, Rhoda O’Dell, and the dedicated team of Nunatsiavut home care workers, Public Health nurses and
doctors who provided her with love and dignity in her last days. She cherished visits from her friends, Ruby, Vicki, Chick,
Marilyn, Nympha, Caroline, Donna, her sisters Katie and Effie, sister-in-law Yvette, and all her other friends and family
who stopped in to see her, every time thanking them for coming.
A celebration of Mary Ann’s life will be held on December 20th at the Our Lady Queen of Peace Church at 2:00pm,
followed by a reception at the Kinsmen Centre. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the
Scleroderma Canada Foundation http://www.scleroderma.ca or to Them Days Magazine

Mary Ann’s legacy of love, laughter, and community will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She will be deeply
missed, but her spirit and warmth will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to be part of her life. Rest
in peace Mary Ann, you will forever be loved and remembered.
