Gordon James Brown

May 3, 1948 – December 7, 2024

St. Lewis, NL

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Gordon Brown announce his passing on Saturday, December 7th, 2024 at the St. Lewis Clinic at the age of 76 years.  Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories; his wife Cora (nee Poole) of 52 years; five children, Effie (Andy), Vincent (Sherry), Dean (Shannon), Pauline (Billy) and Kent; 11 grandchildren, Danielle (Rob), Courtney, Alysha (Pat), Kyle, Shayla, Alana, Megan, Taylor, Hannah, Cali and Isabella; two great grandchildren, Logan (Pop’s man) and Dayna (Pop’s baby angel); seven brothers: Harvey (Peggy), Austin (Diane), Louis (Blenda), Freeman (Doreen), Ford (Marina), Herman (Sally) and Harold (Sheila); three sisters: Elva (Tony), Mable (Dave) and Lucy (Dave); sisters-in-law, Bernice (Frank), Bessie (Chad) and Ethel (Pleaman); brother-in-law Victor (Christine); and a very large circle of nieces, nephews and friends.

Predeceased by parents James and Ida Brown (nee Rose); brothers Lester, Edmund and Lindsay; father and mother-in-law, Thomas and Elsie Poole, brothers-in-law Carl Poole and Wallace Poole.

Gord was known to everyone. If you met him, you remembered him, and he was sure to remember you. His quick wit, humour and tormenting ways were legendary. He had a name for everyone. He would tell stories from the past and make them up on the spot, in a way that had you believing they were true…

He worked all over Labrador and spent most of his life away, providing for his family. It was clear that his wife Cora, his children, grandchildren and now great grandchildren were his world. He was so proud of each one of them.  His favorite place on earth was his cabin in the Bay. He spent many days there with Cora, welcoming friends from all around with a cup of tea, lunch and a “damp”! Those visitors never left without a full belly of food and laughs.

The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 11th at 11:00 a.m. from the Anglican church in St. Lewis with interment to follow at the church cemetery.
