Obituary of Joan Mary Penney
Please share a memory of Joan to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Joan Mary Penney (née Carew) announce her passing on Thursday, January 9th, 2025 at the age of 80 years.
Mom passed so very peacefully in the comfort of her home and surrounded by love, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Mom was a nurturing and caring wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and loyal friend to many.
Mom’s priority in life was always her family, she loved us all unconditionally and taught us to love as she did. She was never happier than when we were all around and wished for the day that we would all just come back home under her wing. She for certain will be watching over us and waiting for all of us to join her and dad again one day.
Her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren are for sure her most prized accomplishments in life and will carry on her legacy for years to come.
Mom’s faith in God was strong and unwavering, she strongly believed in the power of prayer and Saint Anne’s Oil.
She found much solace in her Sunday visits with Father Boniface and was so excited when he recently sang her Christmas hymns.
She will always be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by her children: Randy (Melitia), Pat (Glenis), Gertie (Derrick), Sheila (Troy), Calvin (Tina), and Victoria (Scott); Her precious grandchildren: Autumn and Coady, Joanna and Shannon, Karl, Desiree and Julia, Elijah, Kyla and Evan, Logan and Owen; and her sweet great grandchildren: Kallie, Karter, Lexi and Harper. As well as her siblings: Annie, Reggie, Irene, Steven, Veronica, Imelda, Patrick, their spouses and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and other family members from both the Carew and Penney families. As well as many close and enduring friends who were like family.
Joan was also predeceased by her loving husband Victor Penney, whose arms she is in once again and her siblings Madonna, Vincent, Gus, Cecil, Ronnie, and her parents James and Gertrude Carew.
The Penney family wishes to send a sincere thank-you to Mom’s Doctors: Dr. Forsey and Dr. Whalen, her cancer care nurse Angie Lawrence and her nurse Emily Fox whose care and guidance over the last few months helped Mom tremendously during her illness.
Mom’s final care has been entrusted to Fillatre’s Funeral Home in Happy Valley Goose Bay. Private family time will take place on January 10, 2025, from 6:00PM to 7:00PM and will be open to friends to join and say their final goodbyes from 7:00PM to 9:00PM.
A Celebration of Life for mom and dad will take place at a later date with further details to follow.
Mother
“The memory of someone cannot be lost when they are part of your very core”. Mom you will be forever part of us and while you are no longer of this earth you live on in each of us. We will forever be grateful for all that you have sacrificed for us and the lessons you have instilled in us along the way. You have always been the true symbol of what a mother is and should be. Rest easy mom until we meet again but remember to send us little signs until we are with you again. Love, your children.
