“A Mother’s Love is a Blessing”

Myrtle Mae Elgar (Rumbolt) passed peacefully away on January 11, 2025, at Western Health Long Term Care in Corner Brook, NL.

Left to mourn with many special memories are son Clayton Elgar (Ann) and daughter Doreen Romaine (Guy); grandchildren Michael Elgar (Tracey), Erin Elgar (Robbie), and Danielle Romaine (Mark); great-grandchildren Johnaton, Beverly Ann, Faith, Dylan, Jade, and Easton; brothers Paul Rumbolt (Ivy), Wilfred Rumbolt (Ethel), brother-in-law David Rumbolt; sisters-in-law May Ropson and Barbara Rumbolt; as well as a number of nieces and nephews.

Myrtle was predeceased by her loving husband Reginald and her beloved baby daughter Eliza; her parents Eliza and Thomas Rumbolt; brothers Reuben, Chesley and Lawrence; sister Doreen; in-laws Daniel and Beatrice Elgar, Jessie Ricketts, Ethel Mckay, Cecile Rumbolt, Effie Kelly, Wilfred Elgar and Donald Elgar.

Myrtle was born June 1st, 1935, in the little fishing community of Indian Cove on Labrador’s South Coast. It was there that she met her husband Reg and they were later blessed with two children. Myrtle and Reg eventually returned to the island of Newfoundland and the family settled in Great Harbour Deep on the Northern Peninsula. Myrtle loved being in Harbour Deep but she equally loved Indian Cove and Labrador which was near and dear to her heart. She eagerly returned to Labrador every summer. She made sure her children were with her to share the passion of her home and native land. While in Great Harbour Deep, Myrtle worked at the Grenfell Mission Nursing Station. Her role there covered many jobs such as cleaning, cooking and assisting the nurse. She was a dedicated worker and made many lifelong friends during her career.
Next to her love for her family and her work, Myrtle had an immense love for the outdoors. She could often be seen riding her skidoo, fishing, berry picking, and spending weekends at the cabin. She was also a great cook and a giver. She cared deeply for the people around her and was loved by all.

In her last two years Myrtle was a resident at the Long-Term Care Facility in Corner Brook. She quickly became good friends with the workers, and she developed special relationships with many of them. In her final couple of days, a number of staff members took time to pay her a special visit to pay their respects.
Myrtle left all who knew her with special memories that will be cherished for a long time. This is especially true for her family. Myrtle was a special lady who will be remembered and dearly loved by all who know her.
