David Michael Basha
March 15, 1949 – January 13, 2025
Mt. Moriah, NL
It is with great sadness that the family of the late David Basha announce his sudden passing, with his wife by his side, on Monday, January 13, 2025 at the Health Science Centre, St. John’s at the age of 75 years.
Dave was an active man and could often be found going on walks with his wife Mildred or swimming down at Cooks Brook in the summer. He was someone who was quiet, but if he clicked with you, he would talk your ear off, and he was always full of both questions and information. If you asked him a question on anything, more times than not he knew the answer. He would often quiz Isabella, his granddaughter, on things about the world and what she knew in school. He would talk to and befriend practically anybody he met, always wanting to invite anyone down for a home-cooked meal. In later years, he didn’t like leaving the Island, but he loved visiting Rocky Harbor with his wife and spending time with her down in Bottle Cove. He often visited the home of his daughter and granddaughter who he treasured. He always said to his granddaughter that she was “Papa‘s Little Girl“ and their dog Chibby who he adored and called his “little buddy.” Dave loved animals, especially dogs. He was very full of love for his wife, daughter, granddaughter, and their dog Chibby, and he was loved tremendously in return.
He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories, his wife Mildred (nee Sacobie) of 50 years; only daughter Stella, only granddaughter Isabella, sisters Martha Basha, Corner Brook, Kathleen Limberis (Peter), Toronto, ON; brothers Noel Basha, Curling, Anthony Basha Sr, Mt. Moriah; sister-in-law Sally Bartlett (Ken), Oromocto, NB and brother-in-law Ivan Sacobie (Diane), Oromocto, NB; as well as nieces, nephews, relatives and many friends. He is predeceased by his parents Elias T. Basha and Mary Wellon, brothers Tom, Joe, Nick, Elias, Mike and sister Mary. Granting Dave’s wishes, cremation has taken place. There will be no services at this time. As expressions of sympathy, in lieu of flowers donations may be made to the NL West SPCA.
His final words to his daughter
“I love you, I love Isabella and I love my wife”
