Elizabeth Winnifred “Winnie” Hickey (nee Reid) Corner Brook, NL 1926 … 2010 “Those we hold most dearly never truly leave us.” Passed peacefully away at the Palliative Care Unit of Western Memorial Regional Hospital on Thursday, August 19th, 2010, Elizabeth “Winnie”Hickey. Born in Codroy on June 27th, 1926 to the late Annie and Clement Reid, she was the eldest of ten children. Predeceased by her loving husband Rhoady, December 4th, 2003 and her daughter, Patricia, 1972. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are her brothers: Cecil (JoAnne) Reid, BC, and Hubert (Donna) Reid, ON; sisters: Mildred Parsons, Jeffrey’s, Addie Fiander and Marion (Ralph) Fiander, Codroy; sisters-in-law: Peggy Reid and Ruth Reid, Codroy, Mona (Carl) Fraser, Margaret (Leo) Hepditch, Verna Hickey, Margaret Hickey and Laura Chaffey; brothers-in-law: Jim (Yvonne) Hickey, Ronald Hickey, Ray Boyd and Raymond Batten; daughter by heart: Rebecca Green-Parsons (John); grandson: Stephen Green (Cheron); great granddaughter: Lauren; Boyd Green (Peggy) and grandchildren: Sarah and Matthew, Alberta; as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Winnie was also predeceased by brothers: Henry and Tom Reid; sisters: Thelma Shawghnessy and Audrey Reid; brothers-in-law: Ellis Parsons, Paul Shawghnessy, Vince Fiander, Ted Hickey, Gerald Hickey, Joe Hickey and Roy Chaffey; sisters-in-law: Mary Batten, Elizabeth Boyd and Sylvia Hickey; mother and father-in-law: Annie and Joseph Hickey. Visitation will take place from Fillatre’s Funeral Home, 4 St. Marks Avenue on Saturday evening, 7-9:00 p.m. and Sunday, 2-4 and 7-9:00 p.m. The Mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday, August 23rd at 10:30 A.M. from All Hallows Roman Catholic Church, Humber Road, Monsignor Edwin Gale officiating, followed by interment at Mt. Patricia Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, flowers are graciously accepted or donations may be made to the Palliative Care Unit, WMH, or to the Shepherd’s Fund.
