Shirley H. Alteen Corner Brook, NL It is with great sadness that the family of Shirley Alteen announces her passing on Friday, November 5, 2010 at the age of 83 years. Shirley was a fabulous wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Her hallmark grace and kindness will be remembered fondly. This was reciprocated by many who knew her, including those who attended to her care in her later years. Shirley leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories, her children: Robert (Bob) Alteen (Janice Higgins), Corner Brook; Glenn Alteen, Vancouver, BC; Peter Alteen (Kathy Alexander), St. John’s, NL; Donna Alteen (Tasso Dikaios), Halifax, NS; Doug Alteen (Brenda), Ottawa, Ont. Granddaughters, Katerina & Elena Dikaios (Donna), Susan & Clare Alteen (Peter), Sydney & Renee Alteen (Doug). Sisters, Jean Matheson, St. John, NB & Verna Pollett, Boca Raton, Fla; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Shirley was predeceased by her loving husband of 58 years, Douglas, her parents Stella and Chesley Woodman, brothers Lloyd, George and Guy and sister Marise. Visitation will be held on Monday, November 8, 2010 2-4PM and 7-9 PM at Fillitres Funeral Home, 4 St. Marks Avenue. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 9, 2010 at 11:00 AM at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist Church, Main Street, Rev. Michael Rice officiating. As expressions of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Canadian Diabetes Association.
