Obituary of William Lloyd Candow

WILLIAM LLOYD CANDOW William Lloyd Candow passed peacefully in hospital on Friday, December 3rd. Born January 1926 in Curling, NL, Lloyd was the son of the late James and Annie Candow. Father of Christopher and Sandra (Chris Berkers) and grandfather to Martina and Daria of Ottawa, ON. Brother of Bertha (Don) George, Newmarket, ON, Dorothy (Carl) Hansen Wasaga Beach, ON, Phyllis Fair of Saskatchewan; David Candow Burlington ON., and the late Allan Candow; Gordon Candow, A.J. (Sandy) Candow. Lloyd was a very proud Newfoundlander who truly enjoyed creating humour in the lives of others. In his retirement years he made his home in Pasadena, but through the advent of the internet, had friends and fans across the world (known as “Skipper” to many of his chat buddies). His list of famed achievements includes songwriting, such as the Newfoundland classic lyrics “Some Shockin’ Good”, and chose to use this for the title of his “laugh a minute” book entitled "Some Shockin' Good Smiles - For Seniors", over a hundred “morning smiles” in the Globe & Mail, a frequent caller to his favorite CBC radio shows and a number of other songs and poems. He even has memorabilia credit in Joey Smallwood’s prized Encyclopedia of Newfoundland. Lloyd always coaxed a chuckle from all he met and although there may now be less original material available, we leave you with this for a smile- Old age is like everything. To make a success of it you've got to start young. The family guest book may be signed through our website www.fillatre.ca.
