Obituary of Hilda Margaret Shepherd
Shepherd, Hilda Margaret, 51, of Bayside, Nova Scotia. It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Hilda Margaret Shepherd on Friday, June 24, 2011. She passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by the love of her family.
Born in Newfoundland, she was the daughter of Hazel (Moss) and the late Bud Hamlyn, Corner Brook, NL. Hilda will truly be missed as she was a loving and caring soul. She was a compassionate nurse of 30 years and touched many amazing people along the way. She was well travelled and lived all around Canada from NWT, Alberta and back near her Maritime roots of Nova Scotia. She loved life and shared in the joy of others with a big smile and open heart. She loved to be outside in the sunshine and didn’t pass up an opportunity for a good day’s work around the yard or a sail in the harbour. Hilda was full of life and laughter from her love to dance to enjoying a good round of poker. She cherished her entire family, especially her loyal dog “Lil’ Bear”. She was a strong and unforgettable woman who could make any moment in life better.
She is survived by her loving husband of 23 years, Alan Shepherd; daughter, Ashley, Bayside, NS; son, Stephen (Jennifer Brake), Corner Brook, NL; mother, Hazel Hamlyn, Corner Brook; sisters, Maria (Emily, Dawson and Eli Collier), Cambridge, ON; Angela (Mason and Loa Gordon), Montreal, PQ; brother, Cyrus (Christine) and their children Nick and Alyica Hamlyn, Corner Brook, NL; grandmother, Margaret Moss, Lewisporte, NL ; several nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Visitation will be Sunday, July 3rd at Fillatre’s Funeral Home 4 St. Marks Ave from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. followed by a memorial service in the chapel Monday July 4th at 10:00 a.m. Reverend Kim Waite officiating, with the interment at Mt. Patricia Cemetery. Hilda’s family & friends are invited to a reception to celebrate her life at McHugh’s beginning at 1:00 p.m.
Hilda will be missed by many, but she is now with stars, reaching high in love and in peace. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Bay of Islands SPCA, P.O. Box 876 Corner Brook, NL A2H 6H6. Cremation has taken place under the direction of J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax.
