Dr. James C. Yarn, Corner Brook NL., March 27th, 1933, passed peacefully away in the presence of his loving family, on Wednesday, August 10, 2011, at the Western Memorial Hospital, Corner Brook, NL. in his 78th year. Dr James Yarn was born at Humber Mouth, Corner Brook, in 1933 and raised by his loving parents Arthur and Bessie Yarn. After graduating from Corner Brook, Pubic School, Dr. Yarn attended Mount Allison University, Sackville, NB, (BA) and Dalhousie Medical School, Halifax, NS, (M.D.) in the nineteen-fifties. Upon completion of his medical degree, Dr. Yarn, a son of Corner Brook, set up his practice. For many years he was the official physician for the Bowater’s Pulp and Paper Company along with offering a family practice from 1959 until 1999. After closing his practice, he continued to assist in the operating rooms at Western MRH until 2009. Dr Yarn’s hands-on professional contributions to the medical needs of the CB community and specifically to the families he served directly are many and varied and obvious to those who knew him best. In 1958, Dr. Yarn married the only love of his life, Hazel (nee Peach), and they raised four daughters: Penny, Lisa, Elizabeth, and Jodi. Apart from his professional work, Dr. Yarn was a family man in the truest sense of the word. His years with his wife and children were full of the fun, vigour, and love many families hope to achieve. They were, and continue to be, a family who play, travel and experience life to the fullest together. Dr. Yarn is predeceased by his loving wife Hazel, brother Merle, and his parents Arthur and Bessie Yarn. Leaving to mourn, with cherished and fond memories: Penny Colbourne, (Jeff), Kamloops; Lisa St. Croix,(Lloyd) St. John’s, Elizabeth Penney (Bert), Corner Brook; and Jodi Long (Ian), Calgary; his eight grandchildren, Holly and Zack Colbourne, Robyn St. Croix, Jordan and Jamie Penney, Ava, Alex and Reese Long; his sister Nancy Warren and family (Corner Brook), sister- in-law Shirley (Corner Brook) and niece Michele Randell, (Dave) St. John’s ; his closest friends Flo Randall, Susan Pardy, Dr. Herder Butler, Dr. Cliff Westby, Jean Matthews ,Ted and Elaine Thorne, Helen Way, Henry and Betty Kendall as well as many other cherished friends and colleagues, too many to mention but especially include the staff in the Corner Brook main OR whom he adored .
