Obituary of William Butt

William Henry Butt November 17, 1929 - November 4, 2011 Forever loved, forever admired, the man who was the foundation upon which we built a loving family, our dear husband, father, grandfather and father-in-law finished his earthly journey with us on November 4th. Predeceased by his mother Alethia, father John, mother-in-law and father-in-law Ida and Norman Chipman, sister-in-law Joyce Chipman, brothers Stephen, John, Harold and Edward, sisters Florence, Margaret, Annie and Jean. Leaving to mourn his loving wife of sixty years Pauline, children Donna Butt, Marilyn (Gerry) Ryall, Bill (Jackie), Judi (Rodney) Hillier; grandchildren, who he dearly loved, Gerry, Andrew and Christopher Ryall, Hilary and Tyler Butt, Troy and Benjamin Hillier, brothers Gerry, Les, Graham, sister Gladys, as well as many nieces, nephews and close friends. Also leaving to mourn lifelong friends Lorraine Gosse, Earle and Irene Penney and their families. His spirit will live on in all he touched through the years. We shall carry with us through all time the values he instilled and the decent, honourable way in which he lived his life. He adored his wife, his children and the spouses they chose to spend their lives with. He loved his work with the railway and fought hard to save it; he loved Newfoundland and Labrador; he loved photography, reading and gardening, and above all he cherished his family. He taught us that decency, hard work, and respect for place and people and attention to loved ones were the foundations for a good and graceful life. Through 60 years of marriage he and his beloved wife Pauline embraced us all with their love. They shared their joy, strength and goodwill with all they met. Friends may visit Fillatre’s Funeral Home, 4 St. Mark’s Avenue on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 8th at 2:00 p.m. from All Saints Anglican Church, Clarence Street with Reverend Tanya White and Bishop Percy Coffin officiating. Interment to follow at Mt. Patricia Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to All Saints Anglican Church Fund or to Western Memorial Regional Hospital Foundation.
