DOWNEY James Ignatius Doyles, NL July 30, 1934 – March 10, 2012 It is with great sadness that the family of the late James Downey announce his unexpected passing on Saturday, March 10th, 2012 at Western Memorial Regional Hospital in Corner Brook, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Codroy Valley where he resided. His railroad career began in Halifax, NS, he transferred to Newfoundland, where he spent the majority of his career. He loved his work with the railway for 35 years until it’s closure in 1988. He was very active with the Union to support his co-workers. He had a passion for hobby farming, music and song writing. He had written over 70 songs, with some recorded. He always enjoyed politics and a good debate. His love and support for his family was unwavering. He leaves to mourn wife Martha; 9 children: Debra (Doug) Webber, Andy (Juanita), Walter, Gloria (Terry) Chaulk, Mary (Brian) Welshman, Martin, Agnes, Joan (Gary Kelland), Teresa (Bob) Teskey; 22 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; brothers: Jerome (Rosemary) and Joseph; sisters Theresa Cashin, Kathleen (Kevin) Barry, Anne MacNeil, Lucy (James) Briggs as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Predeceased by his parents Theresa and James; brothers: Edward, Bernard and Anthony; sisters: Frances MacIsaac, Cecilia Hall and Sister Mary Andrina. The family would like to express their thanks for the excellent care James received from the nurses and doctors at Dr. Charles LeGrow Health Centre and Western Memorial Regional Hospital. Friends may visit St. Anne’s RC Church in Codroy on Monday, between the hours of 2-4 & 7-9 p.m., from where the funeral service will take place on Tuesday, March 13th at 10:30 a.m. with interment at Chapel Green Cemetery in Doyles, Father Edward Terry officiating. As expressions of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Fillatre’s Funeral Home, Port Aux Basques.
