JOYCE VERDUN
COLES
(nee Greening)
Steady Brook, NL
February 10, 1916 - January 8, 2013
It is with great sadness that the family of the late Joyce V. Coles announce her passing on Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital in Corner Brook at the age of 96 years. Youngest child of Eli and Alexandra Greening of Musgravetown, BB. Predeceased by her husband Max, and brothers Garland, Caywood, Chesley and Harold, 6 sisters Dora, Elsie, Edna, Marjorie, and twins Ethel and Gertrude in infancy. Leaving to mourn daughter Maxine, Halifax and son Bill (Melinda), Steady Brook. Many nieces and nephews. We will sadly miss her love and compassion. For many years she was the post mistress of Steady Brook. She loved to write poetry and won awards for some of them. Throughout trials or good times in her life she would say “I try to find at least one thing to be thankful for everyday”. She was a lifelong avid reader, especially the classics which she read many times and could recite poetry flawlessly right up to the end of her life. She had total recall of her life and times. Her children were constantly amazed by her wide knowledge. She was thrilled to be able to explore her English roots during four trips to England. She was our anchor through good times and bad and we will always miss her. Friends may visit Fillatre’s Funeral Home, 4 St. Mark’s Avenue on Thursday 3-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Friday, January 11 at 2:00 from Humber United Church, Clarence Street with Rev. Fran Ota officiating. Interment to follow at Mount Patricia Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy flowers graciously accepted or donations may be made to the Western Memorial Regional Hospital Foundation. The family guest book may be signed or a memorial donation may be made through our website www.fillatre.ca.
