<p>WILSON  JAMES  SAMMS</p> <p>BENOIT’S COVE, NL</p> <p>AUGUST 11, 1926 – MARCH 24, 2014</p> <p> </p> <p>It is with great sadness that the family of the late Wilson James Samms announce his passing on Monday, March 24, 2014 at Western Memorial Hospital, Corner Brook,  NL at the age of 87 years.  Wilson was Grand Chief  of the Newfoundland Qalipu Mikmaq, also Chief for Benoit’s Cove for 21 years.  He  leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife Dale (nee Young); children:  James (Gail), David, Joan (David), Shirley (Peter) Paul, Bernard (Nancy), Sharlene (Brad), John (Shelly), Robert (Tracey), 6 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandson; Step-children:  Tracey, Sharon, Jennifer; brother Russell; sisters: Jean, Cora, Shirley and a large circle of family and friends.  He was predeceased by his parents  Jack and Angela (nee Webb) Samms; first wife Yvonne (nee Gallant) in 1993, son Kenneth in 1981 and daughter Elizabeth (Betty) in 2004.  Visitation will take place at Fillatre’s Funeral Home, West St., Stephenville Crossing on Wednesday, March 26, 2014 from 7:00 to 9:00 pm. with family prayers taking place at 7:30 p.m.  Cremation will take place at Humber Valley Crematorium following the visitation with burial in Benoit’s Cove at a later Date.   As expressions of sympathy in lieu of flowers donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Fillatre’s Funeral Home, Stephenville Crossing.</p> <p> </p> <p> </p>
