<p><span style="font-size: medium;">It is with</span><span style="font-size: medium;">&nbsp; </span><span style="font-size: medium;">immense </span><span style="font-size: medium;">&nbsp;</span><span style="font-size: medium;">sadness that the family of the late John</span><span style="font-size: medium;">&nbsp; </span><span style="font-size: medium;">James</span><span style="font-size: medium;">&nbsp; </span><span style="font-size: medium;">Parker announce his passing on Sunday, 16</span><span style="font-size: medium;">&nbsp; </span><span style="font-size: medium;">November 2014</span><span style="font-size: medium;">&nbsp; </span><span style="font-size: medium;">at the age of 80 years.</span><span style="font-size: medium;">&nbsp; </span><span style="font-size: medium;">He will be sadly missed by his son: John Parker of Ottawa , ON; daughter: Joanne Duhart</span><span style="font-size: medium;">&nbsp; </span><span style="font-size: medium;">(Tony) of Corner Brook, NL; daughter: Elizabeth Gilfoy (David) of Dartmouth, NS; </span><span style="font-size: medium;">&nbsp;</span><span style="font-size: medium;">grandchildren : Julian, Jacob, Tyler, Jordan, Brandon and Madison;</span><span style="font-size: medium;">&nbsp;&nbsp; </span><span style="font-size: medium;">Also survived by sister: Elizabeth Mobray, Hamilton, ON and a large circle of friends.</span><span style="font-size: medium;">&nbsp; </span><span style="font-size: medium;">He is predeceased by his wife Joan Sandra Parker,</span><span style="font-size: medium;">&nbsp; </span><span style="font-size: medium;">parents: Helen and John James Parker and his sister: Kay Meihm.</span><span style="font-size: medium;">&nbsp; </span><span style="font-size: medium;">John had a prestigious and rewarding career of 37 years in the RCMP.</span><span style="font-size: medium;">&nbsp; </span><span style="font-size: medium;">Born in Guelph, ON, his career brought him to Newfoundland where he met and settled with the love of his life Joan and raised his family.</span><span style="font-size: medium;">&nbsp; </span><span style="font-size: medium;">While in the RCMP, one of his favorite duties was providing security and protection to visiting dignitaries such as Pierre Trudeau, Prince Phillip, Fidel Castro, and Russian Leader </span><span style="font-size: medium;">Andrei Gromyko.</span><span style="font-size: medium;">&nbsp; </span><span style="font-size: medium;">John also served as SWAT Team commander organizing the response teams for critical incidences.</span><span style="font-size: medium;">&nbsp;&nbsp; </span><span style="font-size: medium;">John was heavily involved in many charitable organizations and was the founding president of the Rotary Club in Gander.</span><strong><span style="font-size: medium;">&nbsp; </span></strong><span style="font-size: medium;">John loved to travel the world, sport fish, hunt and gardening.</span><span style="font-size: medium;">&nbsp; </span><span style="font-size: medium;">He was raised on a farm in Ontario and inherited his father&rsquo;s love for growing things, and was especially proud of his tomato plants.</span><span style="font-size: medium;">&nbsp;&nbsp; </span><span style="font-size: medium;">In his younger days, he enjoyed being part of the dart league at the Legion.</span><span style="font-size: medium;">&nbsp; </span><span style="font-size: medium;">He also participated in Curling for many years and proudly represented Newfoundland as Skip at the National RCMP Curling Tournament.</span><span style="font-size: medium;">&nbsp; </span><span style="font-size: medium;">The funeral service for John, which will include a memorial for his wife Joan, will take place on Friday, November 21, at 1:30 PM from Fillatres Funeral Chapel 4 St. Marks Avenue.
