It is with tremendous sadness that the family of Joshua Porter announces his tragic passing in Etobicoke, Ontario on Monday, July 6, 2015. Born September 14, 1985 at Western Memorial Regional Hospital to parents Darlene Thornton (Howie) and Glenn Companion (Natalie). Joshua will be sadly missed by all who loved him during his too short life of 29 years.

Joshua served his life as more than a loving son. He was also a brother to Jenna Porter and Jason Hackett (Melissa) and a devoted boyfriend to Katherine Cordosa (Kat) and he was uncle to nephews Cameron and Hayden; and grandson to Eileen Companion and the late Joseph Companion, and the late Gordon and Ruth Porter. Included in those left to mourn are countless aunts and uncles, cousins and friends.

Having left Newfoundland as a young child, with his mother, Joshua was determined to make his own way. Joshua loved living in Etobicoke. Though born in Newfoundland, he loved the city like his mother, he even turned down offers to join his father on trips in the woods, for fishing and hunting. Instead, he lived to ride motorcycle, work and spend time with friends. Joshua was family to more than those listed above. Those fortunate enough to be true friends, considered him a brother as well, someone ready to stand up for a family at a moment’s notice, to lend a helping hand and offer a ready smile.

It would only take a brief discussion with him to learn how serious and ambitious Joshua was. A hard worker, Joshua didn’t mind roofing from daylight to dawn. He passed many days with work and sleep, and nothing in between. Joshua believed in an honest day’s work, earning everything he had. No better feeling than working towards a goal and getting there. Finally starting his own company...purchasing a car...a motorbike...these were all days when he was bursting with pride. The past few years were spent with the dreams of buying his own home, working towards this next goal...It was this drive that fueled him and made him an inspiration to friends and family alike.

The Funeral Service will take place Sunday, July 12th at 3:00 pm from Fillatre’s Funeral Home Chapel, 4 St. Marks Avenue with Father Donald Leonard officiating, followed by the interment at the Roman Catholic Cemetery in Benoits Cove.
