Born on Sept 21, 1937 in Saint John, NB, Eric came to Newfoundland as a young man to study at M.U.N. When asked by his son what he took at university, his reply was always "space". His move to Newfoundland was serendipitous. There he met his future wife and love of his life Jean (née Johnson) of Little Catalina who was studying to become a nurse. They were married in Corner Brook in 1960 and started their life together. Several moves later from Corner Brook to Saint John, NB, they finally settled in Pasadena in 1966 to raise their 3 children; Mary-Lynne (Don Mendes), Nancy-Anne and Todd (Sivella Marshall; grandchildren Joey Sintra, Stephanie Sintra). Jean continued nursing while Eric built several businesses and enjoyed various sports. Together they traveled, golfed and curled. Eric is predeceased by his parents, Nancy (née Rennex) and Nick Rockwell and brother-in-law Wade Johnson (Olive). Along with his immediate family, Eric leaves to mourn his sister Lynne Wilkins and brother Vance Rockwell (Sandra Chase Rockwell), both in Nova Scotia and sisters-in-law Faye Mouland (Tobias Mouland), Mary Johnson, Marilyn Johnson, brothers-in-law Harry Johnson (Doris), Winston Johnson; as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. The space that Eric occupied in the lives of so many will leave an indelible mark. He was well respected and well loved, most especially by the family who will miss him always. Friends may visit Humber Valley United Church in Pasadena on Tuesday from the hours of 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. from where the funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 28, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Dr. Tony Newell officiating. Interment to follow at the United Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Parkinson Society of NL.
