<p>It is with broken hearts the family of the late Joan Hickey announce her passing on October 1, 2016 after a courageous battle with cancer. She leaves to mourn with fond and precious memories her husband Willis of 38 years; son Michael (Michelle) Hickey; daughter Glenda Hickey; grandsons (Nans Treasures) Matthew and Nathan Hickey; daughters by choice Angela Park and Colleen Park; special Godson Brett Boland; brothers: Wayne (Eileen) Park, Eric Park (Tibor Schultz), Bill (Bernice) Park, Rod Park and Ron Park; brothers-in-law: Kevin (Judy) Hickey, Wayne (Caroline) Hickey, Derek (Mary) Hickey and Bill MacDonald; sisters-in-law: Marie (Alban) Gallant, Marina (Hodge) Vater, Gloria Hickey (Paul Burton), Maureen (Brian) Duffy, Elaine Hickey (Gord Hackett), Mary Ellen Evoy, Geneva Hickey and Sandra Park; also special friends Connie (Euan) House, Cathy (Brian) Boland and Paula (Brendan) MacDonald; as well as numerous other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her father and mother Stanley and Eileen Park, sister Alice MacDonald, brothers Murdoch and Ralph Park, father and mother-in-law George and Mildred Hickey, sister-in-law Elaine, brothers-in-law Tom Evoy and Ted Companion. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Dr. Tim Griffin, Dr. Kate Lafferty, Dr. Desiree Dunn, Dr. Meghan Matthews, the nurses and staff at the Palliative Care Unit and Chemo Unit for the love and compassion shown to Joan and her family. Friends may visit Fillatre&rsquo;s Funeral Home, 218 Curling Street on Monday 7-9 p.m. and Tuesday 2-4 &amp; 7-9 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, October 5 at 10:30 a.m. from Our Lady Star of the Sea Parish, Benoit&rsquo;s Cove with Father Don Leonard officiating. Cremation to follow with a private family interment. As expressions of sympathy flowers are graciously accepted or donations may be made to a charity of one&rsquo;s choice.
