The family of Elizabeth (Lizzie) Doucette (nee Cox) regrets to advise of her passing on Sunday, July 9, 2017 at age of 82 years. She was predeceased by her husband Anselm and special friend Louis Bennett; her parents Leo and Esther Cox; her brothers Patrick and William and sister-in -law Philomena. She leaves to mourn two daughters Joan (Eugene) and Mary (Cyril), grandchildren, Catherine, Michael, Andrew, Michael, Marlena and Elena; her sister Bernice Pierce (Charles) and brothers Eugene (Doris), Michael (Lorraine), Leo (Sheila) and Freeman (Evelyn), her sister-in-law Florence and her beloved home care worker and friend Darlene Bennett. As a long time childcare provider to Rosemary and Michael Finn, Elizabeth appreciated the relationship that they developed and sustained over the years.

Elizabeth had been diagnosed with a particularly serious cancer in January, 2012. Ironically, her last five years proved to be among the happiest of her life, largely due to the friendships she developed through the truly innovative Senior Outreach program offered by the Bay St. George Senior Citizen Centre and her stay at Emile Benoit House where she lived among an extended network of friends. She encountered exemplary health care at Western Health, Eastern Health and at the Charles Bliss Cancer Centre in St. John’s. Her medical team were amazed at her tenacity and referred to her as a miracle patient. Her family extends heartfelt appreciation to each of the many professionals at every level who treated her with dignity, respect and humour. Dr. Lamswood merits special recognition here, his interactions with Elizabeth were especially caring and effective.

As per her wishes, there will be no visitations, and a private graveside ceremony will occur at the St. Joseph Parish Ceremony in Shallop Cove at 11:30 AM on Wednesday, July 12. The ceremony will be followed by a Celebration of Life at her daughter’s home in Barachois Brook.
