Obituary of George Stanley Sheppard

<center>Corner Brook, NL Veteran Royal Navy</center> It is with great sadness that the family of the late George Sheppard announce his passing on Monday, January 5, 2004 at Western Memorial Regional Hospital, at the age of 82 years. George Sheppard served six years in the Royal Navy during World War II. He was a gunner on destroyer and battleships including the King George-V and the Nelson. His Armed Merchant Cruiser, the Petroclus, was torpedoed in the North Atlantic in November 1940 and he was wounded during the invasion of Italy in 1943. He was a gunner on the King George-V during the sinking of the Bismarck. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his children; Anita MacInnis (Walter), Highlands, NL, Norma Childs, Kippens, NL, Linda Lewis (Jerome), Holyrood, NL, Lorraine Tiessen (John), Toronto, ON, Loretta Abbott (Glen), Massey Drive, NL, Mary Sheppard (Paul), Toronto, ON, George Sheppard, Toronto, ON, Jackie Alcock (Gary), Corner Brook NL, and Honorah Sheppard (Robert), Amherst, NS: grandchildren; Terry, Linda and Allan MacInnis, Eddy, Lisa and Stephen Childs, Robert, Jerome, Sean and Mary Lewis, Richard and Kenzie Abbott, Monica and Danica Squires, Melanie and Rebecca-Anne Sheppard-Hickey, Bernie Hughes, Amy and Kyle Alcock, Rebekah and Sarah Sanford, great grandchildren; Evan, Jeremy, Ryan, Ryan, Melissa, Georgi, Ruairidh, Chelsea, Lucas, Charlie, Danica, Kennedy, Brooklyn, Nathaniel and Nicholas. Brother; Gordon Sheppard, Lark Harbour, brother-in-law James Fletcher, Lark Harbour, sisters-in-law; Margaret Drury, Liverpool, England, Norah Dawson (William), Liverpool, England, as well as other relatives and frends. He was predeceased by his wife of 61 years, Mary, 2001, parents Gordon and Rebecca Sheppard and step-mother Mabel Sheppard. Friends may visit Fillatre's Funeral Home, 4 St. Marks Avenue on Tuesday, 7-9:00 p.m. and Wednesday, 2-4 and 7-9:00 p.m. A mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, January 8, at 10:30 A.M. from The Most Holy Redeemer Cathedral, Mt. Bernard Avenue. Fr. Edmund Camacho officiating. Interment to follow at a later date. As expressions of sympathy, flowers graciously accepted or donations may be made to the charity of ones choice.
