RHODA M.M.
WELLS
Corner Brook, NL
Rhoda M. M. Wells…Passed peacefully away at Western Memorial Hospital in Corner Brook , NL Wednesday August 20 2008 in her 91st year. She was born in Woody Point, the eldest of the nine children of Beatrice and Joe Gillam and for her entire life was an important and caring figure for her immediate and extended family. She was devoted to her three sons and her husband George who predeceased her in 1990, at which time she became a devoted gardener “to keep up George’s garden.” Rhoda was a model for family values before the term was ever popular, even in her work, most notably the many years spent with her brother-in-law, the late Don Poole, in his dental practice and her brother the late Alex Gillam at his nursery business, both in Corner Brook. From her home of 55 years on Reid Street and in her travels to visit family, she was a central and constant source of love, praise, and encouragement for anyone and everyone who was lucky enough to be part of her family and to her this did not just include relatives. Her enjoyment of the game of bridge, particularly in the years since George’s death, greatly enlarged the circle of people who admired her and will miss her. She will be terribly missed by her sons, Don and his wife Libby whom she loved as ‘the daughter she never had’ of Wolfville, N.S., Gerry (Linda) Mississauga, Ont. and Derek (Alison) Chester N.S., grandchildren, Michael, Wendi-Ann, Roger, Robert, Brian, Jody, Joanna and Sarah, great-grandchildren Mitchell, Jeremy, Madeline, Denver, Clara Jane and Nicholas, sisters Ann Poole (Don), Isabelle Crowell (Earl) and Joan Gillam, brothers Ira (Linda) Bill (Gwen) and Bob (Phoebe) and many nieces and nephews, extended family and friends. She was predeceased by her loving and beloved husband George, brothers Don (Vera) and Alex (Hilda). Visitation will be held at Fillatre’s Funeral Home, St. Mark’s Avenue on Thursday from 1-2 family only, 2-4, 7-9. The funeral service will take place at St. John the Evangelist Anglican Cathedral Main Street Corner Brook, 2 pm Friday August 22, interment to follow at Mount Patricia. As expressions of sympathy, flowers will be gratefully accepted or donations made to the Western Memorial Hospital Cancer Care Unit or the Western Regional Hospital Foundation. Message of condolence or donations may also be made through www.fillatre.ca.
