     MURIEL THOMPSON

     Corner Brook

     August 4, 1914 - December 28. 2018

Muriel Thompson (nee Normore) passed peacefully away in the company of her niece at the Corner Brook Long Term Care on Friday, December28,2018 at the age of 104 years.

The daughter of George and Annie Normore (nee Lacey) Muriel was born at Botwood, NL on August 4, 1914, just one week after the outbreak of World War 1.

In the early 20’s she moved with her family to the Bay of Islands, settling at Gearyville, Corner Brook. Here at the age of 23yrs she married Henry Thomas (Harry) Wells of Humbermouth on June 22,1938 only to be widowed just two years later on August 28, 1940 by his tragic death in a train accident.

This tragedy in the beginning of World War 11 prompted Muriel to emigrate to Toronto to work in the factories devoted to the War Effort. Muriel spent the next 26 years of her life in Toronto, self-supporting and independent. There Muriel met and married her second husband, James Thompson on September 10. 1966. In 1968 they moved back to Newfoundland residing for several years in Pasadena before returning home to Gearyville to reside with and care for her sister. Muriel continued in this role through her husband’s passing on May 31, 1981 until her sister’s death in 1992. She continued to contribute her time to the care of her siblings until 2002 when her last sibling deceased.

Through it all she found time to enjoy socializing with family and friends and kept active through such activities as walking and bowling. Muriel whose abode provided a marvellous view was an avid observer of the Harbour and it’s activity, something she loved.

She moved to Mountain View Personal Care Home in 2007 at the age of 93. and three years later an accident initiated her eventual move to the Corner Brook Long Term Care. Muriel determined she wanted to live where she would never have to move again and that factor sealed her decision to reside at the Corner Brook Long Term Care where she continued to reside until her passing.

Muriel always attributed her longevity to healthy living and not having to work too hard. She was a pleasant lady with a winning smile who took pride in her appearance, believed in justice and fairness for all and did her best to show compassion, kindness and respect to others.

Muriel was predeceased by her parents and her five siblings Grace, Clarence, Ernest, Calvin and Beatrice. She leaves to mourn her niece Mary Normore and Linda Bradburn and nephews Calvin Normore and Wayne Normore and Sidney Thompson.; and their families; special great nephew James Douglas Tapp and his family as well as a large circle of other relatives and friends.
