Obituary of Catherine Rowsell

Catherine Gordon

Rowsell

1927-2019

It is with sadness that the family of Catherine Gordon Rowsell announce her peaceful passing on January 10th at Western Memorial Hospital, Corner Brook NL. "Kay" lived a happy life and left us at the ripe age of 91. Born and raised in Edinburgh, Scotland, Kay married Alex Rowsell of Corner Brook NL. After the 2nd Word War they moved to Corner Brook, built their home, and raised their daughter Catherine. She was predeceased by Alex in 1992, her brother Laurie, and granddaughter Susan.  Along with her daughter and husband Keith (Piercey), she leaves to celebrate her life; Grandson Douglas and his wife Lori (King), great-granddaughter Ainsleigh and great-grandson Keegan, as well as many friends and acquaintances who will remember her as a person with a kind and generous heart. She was one who always looked at the good side of things, never complaining - a special person to find in this world. Kay had Scotland in her heart at all times and enjoyed her involvement with Scottish Dancing, The Scottish Heritage Society, the Burn's night dinners and memories of her close Scottish friends from as far back as 60 years. Trips home with wee Catherine reaffirmed her connection to all things Scottish. The family wish to give special thanks to; the care-givers - Yolanda Pennell, Pauline Colbourne, Chantelle O'Connell, Gloria Hayes, Geneva Hackett, and to the nurses and doctors at the Palliative Care unit. As per her wishes Cremation has taken place. Friends may visit Fillatre’s Funeral Home, 4 St. Mark’s Avenue on Saturday, January 12 from the hours of 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, January 13 at 2:30 p.m. from Fillatre’s Funeral Chapel, St. Mark’s Avenue with Rev. Jocelyn Cook officiating. As expressions of sympathy, in lieu of flowers donations may be made to The Western Memorial Hospital Foundation. The family guest book may be signed by visiting www.fillatre.ca.
