Obituary of Bernie Schumph

It is with great sadness that the family of the Late Bernard Schumph announce his passing at the Bay St. George Long Term Care Center in Stephenville Crossing, NL at the age of 75 years.  He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his son Blaise; brother Dave (Bridget) as well as nieces, nephews, other family and friends.  He was pre-deceased by his parents Simon and Amelia Schumph; wife Barbara Ann; sister Zella Marche; brothers:  Adrian, Garfield, Stan and Dennis.  Cremation has taken place at Humber Valley Crematorium, Pasadena, NL.  Bernard began his teaching career in Halifax, NS and moved to Stephenville in the late 1960’s where he taught for over 30 years at St. Stephen’s High School.  He was a mentor, tutor and friend to many of his students and fellow teachers.  Bernard was also a member of the Bay St. George Radio Flyers.  Visitation will take place on Thursday, January 17, 2019 between the hours of 7 – 9 p.m. and Friday, January 18, 2019 between the hours of 2 – 4 & 7 – 9 p.m. from Fillatre’s Funeral Home, 37 West Street, Stephenville Crossing, NL.  The Funeral Mass will take place on Saturday, January 19, 2019 at 10 a.m. from St. Stephen’s Parish in Stephenville, NL with Father Maurice O’Quinn officiating.  Inurnment will take place following the service in the Roman Catholic Section of Hillside Interfaith Cemetery, Stephenville, NL.  As expressions of sympathy donations may be made to the Canadian Mental Health Association of Newfoundland and Labrador, 603 Topsail Road, St. John’s, NL  A1E 2E1.  Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Fillatre’s Funeral Home, Stephenville Crossing, NL.
