It is with profound sadness that the family of Daniel C. Faour announces his passing in Corner Brook, NL on Wednesday, May 22, 2019, in his 94th year. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 64 years, Freida, his parents Edward and Mary Faour, and his sister, Marguerite Dean. He leaves five children, Fonse (Maureen) of St. John’s, Christine (David Jones) of Coldbrook, NS, Geraldine of Ottawa, Joanne (Bernard Greene) of St. John’s, and Sheila (Barry Warren) of Montreal; twelve grandchildren: David Faour (Sarah), Dartmouth, NS, Elizabeth Faour, Halifax, Peter Faour (Catherine) Halifax, Thomas Faour, Kingston, ON, Daniel Massicotte (Sara), Toronto, Stephen Massicotte, Montreal, Aaron Massicotte, Montreal, Marcus Etchegary (Jenn), Toronto, Dominic Greene, St. John’s, Danielle Greene, Toronto, Julia Warren, Montreal, Ted Warren, Montreal; and four great-grandchildren, Ryker and Adelaide Etchegary, Toronto, Harriett Faour and Rita Faour of Halifax.
Dan was born in St. John’s, and came to Corner Brook at age 2 following the early death of his father. He went to school in Toronto, and on his return in 1948 he established his first jewellery business on Broadway in Corner Brook. It was there he met his future bride, Freida, and they were married in 1950.
His was a life well-lived as an entrepreneur, volunteer in the community, and family man. In the jewellery business in Corner Brook for over 40 years, he developed a reputation for excellence in his work, and fairness and dedication to his customers. As his business grew, he was also focused on giving back to the community which was the basis of his livelihood. He was involved in Holy Redeemer Parish as a member of the Parish council. He was an active participant in the Knights of Columbus and reached the most senior levels for the Province. In the community, he was an active member and Chair of the Corner Brook Ski Carnival, which became the Corner Brook Winter Carnival. He was a member of the Rotary Club of Corner Brook, took on executive positions, and was recognized as a Paul Harris Fellow, emblematic of significant contributions to the organization. His interest in the community led him to contributions to the Corner Book Chamber of Commerce, Advisory Boards of the Grenfell College and the Downtown Business Association. One of the most enduring, and endearing, aspects of his social infrastructure in Corner Brook, he was a founding member of a card group, the Five and Dime Club, with six of his close friends, since 1951. He was the longest surviving member, and recruited many of the “younger” members in recent years, who in turn supported him as he got older.
His greatest pride was reserved for his family, his five children, 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, whom he regarded as his greatest legacy. As a father, his dedication was inspirational, as he provided leadership and stability to his wife and children for almost 70 years.
The family will be receiving friends on Sunday and Monday, May 26 and 27, 2019 at Fillatre's Funeral Home, 4 St. Mark's Avenue from 2 - 4 in the afternoon and 7 - 9 in the evening.
