Obituary of Margaret Elizabeth Young

Please share a memory of Margaret to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Sister, Aunt and Friend. Surrounded by family, Margaret passed away peacefully at her second home on June 23, 2019 after a brave and valorous fight with cancer.

Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are her two daughters Anne Young-Gillam (Scott) of Kippens, NL, Beverly Young (Michael) of Pubnico, N.S. and their father Limbert Young & Family: sister Isabelle Brown: brothers Andy Renouf and Neil Renouf: brother/nephew Peter Renouf: grandchildren Cody Young of Apple River, N.S., Sasha Young (Murray) of New Salem, N.S., Riley Robarts and his father Tom Robarts of Advocate Harbour, N.S.: great grandson Grayson Gulliver “ Her precious little man”.  She is also survived by many precious nieces, nephews, special brothers in laws and friends.

She was predeceased by her parents James and Annie Renouf, sisters Sarah, Marie, Mary, Ida: brothers Johnny and Sandy.

Margaret loved her family and friends dearly. She especially enjoyed when the grandchildren and great grandson came along. They were her source of strength and reason to go on after her diagnosis 27 years ago. Margaret never let her diagnosis define her, instead she let it refine who she was. She lived each day after knowing what was important, prioritizing and learning not to waste time. She found herself not battling her disease, not struggling with it, not suffering from it, not breaking under the burden of it by never giving up and never giving in. With family and friends by her side she courageously fought the fight until the very last day. She inspired many with her “toughness” and her ability to keep going after everything she had endured. She may have had cancer but cancer never had her.

The family wishes to express heartfelt thanks to the TLC workers who took care of our Mother during her illness. Nurses Kathy and Colleen of the Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital for their years of care and support to not only Mom but to us as well. To Lori Chaffey RNP, Elizabeth Lomond and Marg Corneck of the Western Health End of Life Program, we thank you for all of your support and guidance.

Because of you ladies and this program were able to grant Mom’s wish of staying at home during the end of her journey.

Finally, an extra special note of appreciation to our Mother’s best friend Elsie Young, who has stood by Mom’s side as a source of support in friendship for many years.  Elsie and Mom had some great times together over the years with their dart and bingo friends at the RC Hall in Heatherton. In helping us grant Mom’s wish of staying at home, Elsie spent this past month with our family helping take care of our Mom. We are forever grateful for all your support during these most difficult days.

Funeral Service will take place at 2:00 pm, Wednesday June 26th, 2019 at St Joseph’s RC Church in Heatherton, NL with Father Kris Mekala officiating. Inurnment will take place at the RC Cemetery located behind the church with a gathering for family and friends to follow at the Parish Church Hall.

As expressions of sympathy, flowers will be graciously accepted or a donation can be made to the RC Parish Hall Improvements Fund.
