Obituary of Gerald William Lush
Lush
Gerald William
With great sadness we announce the passing of our father, brother, Pop Pop and friend.
Gerry was born and raised in Newfoundland spending his childhood in Badger, surrounded by the great love and antics of his 7 siblings.
He left the island for the prairies in 1961 and settled in Winnipeg, Manitoba where he met and married our mother, Gwynne Marsh.
Together they raised the 3 of us, Cathy, David and Glenn in Winnipeg and Carman, Manitoba. Gerry was always an entrepreneur and was involved in many business ventures throughout his lifetime.
He was always willing to lend a hand when someone needed a little help. His sense of humour, and his smile brightened any room.
In 1995 Dad married Daphne Verge whom he had known since his school years and they returned to Newfoundland in 2002 where he resided until his recent move to Calgary, Alberta.
In Newfoundland Dad and Daphne carried on his passion for antiques where they owned Granny’s Attic. They also owned and operated Lush’s Cottages together where they made some long-lasting relationships in the area.
Dad and Daphne attended Humber Valley United Church and thoroughly enjoyed the relationships they had made within the church. Dad was also a member of the Men's Group and the Choir.
Gerry will be lovingly remembered by his children:
Daughter, Cathy Lush of Calgary, Alberta and her family,
Brianne and Sanjay Sachdev and children Kai and Kala.
Ashley Allen of Maple Creek, Saskatchewan and daughter Riley.
Brayden Allen and Heidi Wainwright of Calgary and their children McKayla and Ciara.
Son, David and Kim Lush of Okotoks, Alberta and their children,
Kirstie, Darby and Nicolas.
Son, Glenn Lush of Duncan, BC and his children,
Eden, Rhys, Ryan, and Evan.
Besides his children, Gerry will also be remembered by his siblings and their families including their Aunt Jean Rice; Yvonne Rideout and family; Ruth Chaffey and family; Ivan and Barb Lush and family; Loretta and Nelson Dicks and family; Keith and Elaine Lush and family; Marilyn and Brent De Freitas and family.
Dad is also survived by his stepchildren, where he developed a close relationship over the years, Karl and Angie O’Guntke and their son Kyle of Portugal Cove, Newfoundland; Heidi O’Guntke of Edinburgh, Scotland; mother-in-law, Doris Verge of Corner Brook and brother-in-law, Bob Verge and his wife Roxanne of St John’s, Newfoundland.
Gerry was predeceased by his wife, Daphne; his parents; Oliver and Gladys (Bignell) Lush; and his stepfather; Jerry Harvey; our mother, Gwynne Marsh; his brother, Harvey Lush and brothers-in-law, Fred Rideout and Gary Chaffey.
A Celebration of Gerry’s life will be held at Humber Valley United Church (9 Church St, PO Box 278, Pasadena, NL, A0L 1K0) on July 27th, 2019 at 1:00 pm.
