Joseph Charles Billard
August 9, 1950 - July 3, 2019
It is with great sadness that the family of the late Joseph Billard announce his sudden passing in Burgeo at age of 68. Joe was the son of the late Angus and Winnie (Riles) Billard. He was born and lived in Grand Bruit until it was resettled in 2009. As was well-documented in the media, he was the last citizen to leave Grand Bruit and was always a larger than life ambassador of the town. He was well known far and wide as the proprietor of the Cramelot Inn and visitors to Grand Bruit from all over the world were easily welcomed by Joe to pop in to the Cramalot for a cook-up and a refreshment. Joe moved to Burgeo after Grand Bruit closed and he became a very likeable and well-recognized figure there, stopping to talk to many people on his daily walks about town.
Joe was predeceased by his brother Harold Billard and brother-in-law Sandy Billard. He leaves to mourn his sister Theresa Billard, sister-in-law Elsie (MacDonald) Billard, niece Geraldine Billard, nephews Kevin Billard, Richard Billard (Wanda), Aubrey Billard(Joanne), Dean Billard(LeahAnne), Shawn Billard (Winter), Perry Billard (Cherise) and Brent Billard as well as a large circle of relatives and friends. He will be greatly missed by all.
There is a memorial service for Joe at Faith United Church in Burgeo on July 7, 2019 planned for 2pm followed by a reception at the 50+ Club. His remains will be interned at Grand Bruit at a later date.
