Sorry to hear of this..Walt and I did some great xc ski trips and hiking trips when we first moved to Corner Brook in the 1980's and well into the 1990's.There is even a photo of him in a book that I did called Images of W Newfoundland while on a ski trip in the Tablelands. I fondly recall after a failed fishing trip to the Serpentine River how he suck into our house with a salmon and put it in the fridge. What a surprise to find that salmon. Thanks Walt you will be missed. Condolences to the family.

I attended Bishop Feild College long after Walt had left the old school. He was prominent in many sports there. When the archive for the school was established my wife and I travelled to Corner Brook to see our friends and while there interviewed Walt and another Old Feildian, Ford Neal. I married Walter's granddaughter Allison 12 years ago. Even in the first few days of meeting her she spoke of her grandparents and the close relationship she had with them. I had heard many stories of Walter and his personality, popularity, war stories and sporting accolades before I even met him. When it was time to visit Corner Brook and 'meet the family' for the first time Walter did not disappoint! He will be remembered for his kindness and warmth, his wit and sense of humour and most of all for the wonderful family he raised along with his lovely wife. Dear Nellie, Anne and Brian,
I am saddened with the news of Walt's passing but oh so grateful that he was a part of my life. He was a role model for me and many others to keep active and stay in shape. In that regard I owe him a lot, especially for his patience and wisdom in my early years of cross country skiing. He was very generous in his friendship. I will never see the Blomidon Mountains without thinking of him.

So very sorry to here of Uncle Walt’s passing. Although there is no actual relation, for as long as I have known him, he was Uncle Walt to me. He and my Dad spent many hours together with 511 Humber Air Cadets, and I have fond memories of those times. The last time I saw Uncle Walt was at an annual inspection for the squadron. I was in uniform at the time and was very honored to be able to salute him. A generous man, who gave his all to his community, may he Rest In Peace. Nellie, Brian, Ann and families -
where can I start - I feel so very blessed to have known my cousin, Walter, over the past 74 years. I have many fond memories of all of us at Mom Le Messurier's and latter Fran and Will's house for wonderful Sunday suppers. I remember when Aunt Florence turned up from New York off the boat and my mother, Aunt May, Will and Fran going out to meet her at Gallant's and Walt looking at us with a big smile and saying "we will all go out to meet her when she comes !! " I also remember the big family picnic's at Cook's Brook when you kids were so small and later many games of baseball in my yard and Walt would try to organize us, and me wanting to be pitcher because I was the oldest and after all it was my yard . All these memories will linger with me for a long time as I am sure his memory will live in all your hearts as well. Remember each of you has special memories of you and him that are unique to the two of you only. Cherish them and keep them close in your heart.

Sincere condolences to the family of Walter, I will always remember him for the many times he visited Tidewatcher Cafe in Lark Harbour. To me He was a great outdoorsmen, I admired his ability in his late 70’s to strap the skis on his back , hike up copper mine area or blow me down mountain and ski his way back, a physical ability many wish for. Truly a sad day to hear of his passing.

I’m so sorry to hear of Mr. Lemessuriers passing. I have only fond memories of growing up next door. From watching Mr. Lemessurier ride his bike down the driveway in the spring with skis on his back ready for an adventure, to seeing Mrs. LeMessurier give the all clear in the winter that it was safe to rev the Red Truck up the driveway. LeMessuriers-
I’m sorry to hear of Mr LeMessuriers passing. He was a part of my life from the age of 4 when we moved in next door and began sharing a driveway. I have vivid memories of running away squealing as Walter’s red truck would come flying up the driveway. We’d say “he must not have had a good golf game”!
Mr LeMessurier was a great neighbour to us, laughing at whatever silliness we were up to. I know he lived a great life and I hope his family are all able to be together and enjoy remembering his life too.

To the LeMessurier family.....
I first met Walt when I was but 14 years old .I was looking for things to do and 511 Humber Squadron Air Cadets were looking for recruits,so it seemed to be an ideal opportunity for me .Walt was our Commanding Officer and turned out to be much more than just an inspiring leader,it was the beginning of wonderful friendship that continued for some 65 years .
He was a true leader and showed a genuine interest in each and every one of us ..".His Boys " as he would later refer to us .He always wanted the best for us and taught us how to be at our best .He taught us how to be leaders and the lessons I learned from him at that early age stood the test of time and have been a very positive influence all my life . Thank You Walt LeMessurier .
To his wonderful wife Nellie,his life long companion ,partner and Friend ..a truly blessed relationship ...and their family I express my heartfelt condolences .My dear wife and I are two of many who are proud to be called your friends .

Nellie, Anne & Brian;
While I had the pleasure working at Mountain View Retirement Centre I was fortunate to get to know Walter, and what a pleasure it was. His smile would lighten up any dark room and his laughter was such a joy to be around. When I done the Bingo games, Walter was always sure to have a seat by me, and his Bingo cards always had to have is lucky numbers on them, B 7 & B 13. He would dig down in the basket till he got those cards, then he would tell me to call the numbers on his cards. When he would tend the church services you can be sure to hear Walters voice, so loud and clear. He attended all the functions at the home and would take pride in all he done. He loved to dance with Nellie and they were a beautiful couple together to watch, they had that pleasure just a couple of weeks ago. The stories he told me about being a pilot were very interesting. When Walter was around there was never a dull moment and he was very witty, a man never stuck for a word. His love for Nellie and his children were very obvious that they were the loves of his life, he chatted non stop about them. I could go on and on about Walter, he was a very fine gentleman. Well Walter, there will be dances, story times and even Bingo in heaven, if I ever hear a voice shouting out Bingo I will know it was Walter, they called his numbers.
Carry on the Parade Walter and be very proud of those wings you earned. Till we meet again. Rest In Peace my buddy.

So sorry to hear of Uncle Walt's passing. 95 years old, wow; and well most of his life! I was always proud of him, especially of his air force duty and his soccer prowess.
