Obituary of Thelma Cynthia Patey

Thelma Patey of Hawke's Bay passed peacefully away, but all too soon, into the beauty of Heaven on Monday, November 4, 2019.  The world has lost a kind, sweet, and gentle soul; a beloved mother, a tender sister, and a cherished aunt. She leaves behind devastated children: Tina (Scot) and Gary (Bettina); her darling grandchildren whom she loved beyond measure: Jack and Charlotte; and her devoted siblings: Roland, Irene, Bonnie, Annie (Tony), and George. She will be forever missed by her many nieces and nephews, who have all been well loved by their treasured "Aunt Tall". She found much joy in the friendships and fellowship of her ACW group, and it was with much sadness that she had to leave them due to illness. Many in Hawke's Bay will remember her for her selflessness and the many decades she spent collecting for the Christmas Seals campaigns. She was a familiar sight out and about town until her illness limited her activities. She was predeceased by her parents Frances and Woodrow Patey;  her brothers: Reginald, Raymond, and Norman; brothers-in-law Gordon and Wade, and her best friend/sister in law, Peggy. Though we are saddened by her passing, we are better for having known her. Her gentle heart and unconditional love set an example for all of us. She will be forever missed and never forgotten.  Visitation will take place on Wednesday 2-4 & 7-9 PM at Holy Innocents Anglican Church in Hawkes Bay, with a family service at 7PM Wednesday.  A funeral service will be held at the church on Thursday, November 7th at 2:00PM with Rev Clare Stewart officiating.  Interment will follow at Sandy Cove Interfaith Cemetery.
