In the past few days I been reflecting on my uncle Norv who was a very kind, respectable, noble gentleman. His visits to Labrador were always very exciting. I always watched for his car coming out L’Anse Amour branch. It was a place he loved and dear to his heart and he appreciated very much. He would visit our families four times a year with the love of his life; Aunt Mabel. In the Spring, to prepare the fishing gear; Summer to help set the potato garden and haul the salmon nets. In September to dig the garden and cut hay for the cattle and in November to saw the fire wood and store it for the winter. Dad looked forward his visits and the extra help while mom cooked the home cooked meals and his favourite desserts and cookies which he loved very much. In Labrador, back in the day we had all gravel roads and Uncle Norv didn’t appreciate his car being dirty, therefore his daily chore was washing his car. He was very particular over his car; it meant a lot to him. Uncle Norv built great relationships with the people in Labrador and maintained many wonderful connections throughout the years. Anyone who travelled to Corner Brook to buy a vehicle went to Corner Brook Garage and asked for Norv Oxford. This refined exceptional gentleman who I’m honoured to call my Uncle made his final ferry crossing to Labrador December 7, 2019. In accordance with his wishes, his burial will take place in the L’Anse Amour cemetery.
We are sending sincere condolences to the Oxford families.
Cecil and Bonnie Davis.
