It is with great sadness that the family of the late Barbara Ann Gilbert (nee Sheppard) announce her passing on Thursday, December 19, 2019, at Western Memorial Hospital, Palliative Care Unit, while surrounded by her loving family and friends at the age of 66 years. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories: her husband of 49 years, Terry; daughter Tracey Childs (Terry), sons Duane (Wanda), Jamie (Suzanne) and Ivan (Krista); nine precious grandchildren: Charmaine (Danny), Nicholas (Emily), Jesse, Marcus (Lindsey), Jenny (Randy), Sara, Jada, Ryan and Cooper; two great grandchildren: Sadie and Paisley; sisters: Dorothy Byrne and Catherine Bourgeois (Larry); brothers Harold Sheppard, George Sheppard (Hazel), Roy Sheppard (Madonna) and Ivan Sheppard; brothers and sisters-in-law: Beatrice Pennell (Freeman), Raleigh Gilbert, Joanne Sheppard (Graham), Christine Sheppard, Christine Gilbert, Marina Sheppard and Patricia Gilbert; as well as a very large circle of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Predeceased by her parents Noble and Jessie Sheppard, sister Florence Hickman , brothers Gerald and Eric Sheppard; brothers and sisters-in-law: Gordon Gilbert, Norman Bourgeois, Gerald Byrne, Grace Sheppard and Garfield Hickman; father and mother-in-law Wesley and Maryann Gilbert. The family would like to extend special Thanks to the Nurses and Staff of the Intensive Care Unit, 3B, Palliative Care and especially the Dialysis Unit, and to Dr. Philip Morris and Dr. Stephen Murphy for the continuous care and compassion. Great appreciation and love to all of her passionate caregivers over the years, she thought so much of each one of you, thank you for your kindness, patience and love shown to her. Granting her wishes, cremation has taken place at Humber Valley Crematorium. Friends and family may visit St. James Anglican Church, Lark Harbour on Saturday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. The funeral service will take place from St. James Church on Sunday, December 22nd at 2:00 PM with Reverend Effie Organ officiating. Interment to follow at the church cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Kidney Foundation or to St. James Memorial Fund.
