It is with heavy hearts and deep sadness that the family of the Late Gertrude Gillam announce her passing on Sat., Jan. 4, 2020 at the Charles L. LeGrow Long Term Care Centre, Port Aux Basques, NL at the age of 97 years. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are her daughter Diane (Norm); daughter-in-law Emma; grandchildren: Jason (Denise), Blaine (Melanie), Jodi, Christine (Grant), Alesia; great-grandchildren: David (Sue), Falon (Shane), Jamie, Leslie, Christian, Jacob, Joey, Scotty, Jackson, Maxwell, Brady; great-great-grandchildren: Shiane, James, Mason, Heidi; 10 brothers and sisters; very special friend Mary Kitchen as well as nieces, nephews other family and friends. She was pre-deceased by her husband James; sons: Arthur, David; parents Arthur & Georgina Shears; brothers: Albert, Boyd; brothers-in-law: Max, Augustus and sister-in-law June. To mom, family and friends were her world. She served as president in both the ACW & Alter Guild of her church and took great pride in her work. She continued as a local business woman even after the passing of her husband and son through sheer determination. The family would like to send sincere thanks to Dr. Thomas and the staff of the Charles L. LeGrow Long Term Care Center who went above and beyond in taking such wonderful care of mom in the short time she spent there. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Visitation will take place on Tues., Jan. 7, 2020 between the hours of 2 – 4 & 7 – 9 p.m. at St. George’s Anglican Church, Robinson’s, NL from where the funeral service will be held on Wed., Jan. 8, 2020 at 2 p.m. with The Rev. Norman Cutler officiating. Interment in the Anglican Cemetery, Robinson’s, NL will take place following the service. As expressions of sympathy flowers are graciously accepted or donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society or St. George’s Anglican Church Memorial Fund. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Fillatre’s Funeral Home, Stephenville Crossing, NL.
